I've been asked so many times if it is possible to use polycarbonate lens instead of perforated mesh wire. My reply was...puede!
Reason:
1. bbs shattering or broken into little bits of pieces, if cheap bbs are used by your opponents (I dont want to use enemies) ;D
2. to be used for paintball games
Airsoft Facts before we move on...
1st. There was a point in time cheap bbs were introduced of course at a lesser price. Eventually it did not last long coz in our experienced jammed bbs was a concern which did happened to one of our team mate. 2nd they do break up into nasty little pcs. From then on my Team, Eagles Team, Pampanga, Cheap bbs were not allowed although there is no way of knowing it.
2nd. A lot of people are wearing the Sansei or Sensei mask and other similar mesh type mask. If they are afraid of my mask then they should also be afraid as well with the other mesh type mask.
adjustments:
*more expensive...well not that really expensive if I can only locate a reasonable price/source for the poly lens, the mini fan and other components.
*fogging issues. I will try the ones suggested from the other forums: tootpaste, silicon oil, baby oil and dental de-fogger.
Anyway here's what I did. "do it yourself" or DIY.
materials:
*2 mm flexiglass from a friendly local supplier "Comglasco"
*Evo bond. can be purchased at any hardware store or paint store. This is different from the bulldog and pioneer super bond or super glue. What's good about this Evo Bond it does not leave a white stain or fog around the applied area.
Tools:
*pencil
*tracing paper
*Grinder. Like a bench grinder 1/4 hp. If you don't have one, maybe you can befriend someone who works in an optical shop or dental shop. If you insist, grinding the flexi glass by sand paper or dremel tool...I wish you all the best and Goodluck! ;D
Lastly...I just positioned the two flexiglass inside.
The applied area..notice no fogging or white marks on the contact point of the Evo Bond. encircled with red line.
Actually you may even use a silicon gel to secure the plastic or flexiglass in case you want to clean it every after use.
If you worry about the impact of the broken bbs and eventually breaking the flexi glass. It wont happen coz the mesh has already absorb the force of impact. what you get is only a sprinkle in the flexi glass.
Caution: never inhale the fumes or odor of a product similar to fast bond chemical: evo bond, pioneer, bulldog and etc. better check their labels for cyanide content.
Let it air dry for awhile to ventilate or dissipate the odor before placing it near your nose.
Fogging Issue. It did fog!
to be continued.
